Brews and Builds: Episode #112 – Theory Craft: Yurlock, Scorched Thrash
Ladies and Gentlemen, get our your Tin Hats because it is a Theory Craft!!
After being inspired by Mr. Combo’s Last Say Yes to the Deck, Big Tuck goes back to his Jund loving with a burning build of Yurlock, Scorched Thrash! Being a little different than his usual beat face with creatures style, BT wanted something that was a little more punishing BUT much less stax. The idea would be:
- Start with group hug-mana growth and lots of land drops. We want all players to have piles of lands and mana to use, hopefully to overtap and leave some mana-lying around.
- Dictate the flow of lands and tapping out. I think there are some “fairish” stax style cards in these colors that encourage OR force tapping out your mana during your turn or other people turn. We want to use this to encourage tapped out lands so that we can have full turns
- BURNINATE. Now that there are piles of lands being tapped and untapped (forced or encourage), it’s time to bring the pain train. We want to burn for tapped lands and untapped lands, and drive life-totals down as fast as possible.
Did Mc5 find some new spice to hurt BT’s opponents (spoiler: He absolutely did)? Or will he see a little bit too much of himself in this build? Tune in to find out!!
